Part of the How To Be A Pin Traitor Series Previous This is my second post in my How To Be A Pin Traitor series. In the series, I share with you everything I learn about pin trading. This one, is about all the necessary materials you need, to be an official Pin Traitor!
Pins- This is the most important! People aren’t just going to give you pins. (Usually) You need to have stock to trade with. When first buying pins, don’t buy all your favorite pins, and no others. First off, you won’t want to trade. You will love someone’s pin, but love the one they want, alll the same. This will cause a disappointing day.
So, buy pins you will be willing to trade!
Lanyard- This is only neccesary if you are planning to trade for a short time. (Long term. One month vs. one hour) Many people get lanyards with a starter set. In my opinion, bad idea. Those pins are very common, and considered worthless to many people, sothey may not trade with you. If you want a lanyard, get one withount pins included. (They are also cheaper
)
Lanyard Medals- These are the big, clunky metal things, you attach to your lanyards, so they hang on your stomach. These are not necessary, and their only purpose is to look cool. I personaly think they are useless and clunky, not to mention, a waste of money.
Pin Bag- This is necessary if you want to trade long term. You can either get a messenger bag to hold about 320 standard size pins. These bags are very handy, they also have pockets on the inside and outside. There is also a mini bag. These are smaller, so easier to carry around, and aren’t as heavy. Each sheet, instead of being double sided like the big bag, velcros and unfolds to become 2 mini double sided shets. A mini bag holds about 54 pins. Necessary for long term pin trading, and if you have no lanyard.
Pin Backs- A pin back is the little black, rubber, mickey head, that goes between the pin, and the thing you stuck the pin through. It keeps the pin in place, and protects you from the pointy stabby thingy. These are easily lost, so you need to always keep some spare ones handy.
MONEY- Pin trading is fun, but it costs some money. It takes at least one hundred dollars to start well. If you want to build your collection (More pins to trade. More pins that you like) it will take more, because buying pins themselves, is pricey.You can however, always buy lots of pins on Ebay. You can get random lots for cheap, and the more pins you buy, the more you save overall.
I hope my list helped you. If you have anything to add that you think will help others (or me!), or you have any questions, please comment.
